the house This beautifully renovated traditional stone village house, originally housing the community's wine press, stands just off the "Piste Vert," the Greenway, once the railway running from Mazamet to Beziers.

Just a few minutes walk from the Grotte de la Deveze, an impressive cave complex with publically accessible areas, as well as caves for the serious potholer.

Accommodation

The three storey house sleeps up to six people in three double bedrooms. The bright and spacious living room has a wood burning stove, a large oak dining table and plenty of comfortable seating. The kitchen is well equipped with a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, electric stove and oven, and a sturdy oak table for meals. Outside is a patio, including a barbeque. There is a shower room with WC on the middle and top floors, and a WC on the ground floor.

Courniou has a small general store which is a great place to get your bread in the morning. The nearest supermarkets are in St. Pons de Thomieres, 7km away. St. Pons also hosts a fantastic market on Wednesday mornings, where you can buy direct from local producers.

Courniou Les Grottes

Built on a marble hillside, Courniou-les-Grottes is so named because of the numerous cave systems in the area. The most famous, La Deveze, was discovered in 1886 by workers building the railway to Beziers.

There are numerous tracks and paths in the area of the village which are safe for walking and mountain biking. Mountain bikes are available for hire from us, but please let us know in advance how many and the sizes that are required, and the standard of mountain biker that you are.
